To the finals
The 13th European Universities Basketball Championship, which was attended by over 450 participants from 14 countries, is ending tomorrow.

Finals will be played in OS Koper. Women's finals will be played at 5.45 pm, while the men team will compete at 8 pm.


Yesterday the 4th day of competition (5th day of EUC Koper) was marked by excellent quarterfinal matches. Male and female basketball team of the University of Ljubljana passed to the semifinals after winning both German representatives. For locals and hosts of the championships, the team of University of Primorska, the Turkish team was too strong indeed, even though they fiercely fought to the end. In the most exciting match of the day, after a heavy battle, they lost the duel with Istanbul Fatih University with the final result of 74:68.


In girls matches the University of Zagreb firmly won Aydin University with 84:63, Strasbourg defeated by Viennese 52:37 and the biggest surprise of the day were Warsaw women who smoothly won with 58:42 the Russian Surgut.


For men, the first to break through the quarterfinals was Ljubljana, while the Moscow Lomonosov University had to admit the superiority of Bologna, it was 65:79. Niš from Serbia expectedly as foreseen defeated the Estonians 89:62.


In groups playing for rankings from 9th to 12th places the University of Trieste won their first game after beating the Portugese Aveiro to 57:50 and Hungarians with a score of 79:54 outrun their Romanian oponents.


Today the first semifinal match will took place in STŠ Koper at 5.45 pm between female team from Ljubljana and Poland, followed by another three matches at8 pm in all three halls of the Championship, between woman team from France and Croatia (Zagreb), man teams Turkey vs Italy and Serbian vs Ljubljana.
